Vendor Spotlight – Da Mixing Pot
Hello everyone, Kev here welcoming you to the eleventh edition of the Oddmall Vendor Spotlight! This will be a recurring series to share with you all some of your local vendors and attendees of Oddmall shows, highlighting their incredible talents, wonderful personalities and amazing creations.
After a long hiatus, I am happy to be returning with one of our regular Oddmall Vendors; Jennifer of Da Mixing Pot! Bringing a wide variety of unique and satisfying items to many Oddmall shows, Da Mixing Pot specializes in everything from crystal carvings, custom t-shirts, plants and so much more! While you will see many of the items being horror themed or of unique characters, Jennifer always makes sure to come prepared for the event she attends, as seen in miniature pickle carvings she has for the Akron Pickle fest – a personal favorite item of hers.
For Jennifer, her business has always been a family focused operation. While she was always personally into crafting, it was about five years ago that she had begun making her custom t-shirts and plants. It was when her oldest of six children, Aiden, got involved that the crystal carvings became a staple of Da Mixing Pot. “Ever since he could walk, that kid has been collecting shiny rocks which turned into Crystals when he got older,” Jennifer shares. “You will always see him by my side at the shows with one, if not more, of my heathens.”
Not only are Jennifer’s kids so supportive of her business, but she also has a huge amount of appreciation for her loving husband Christopher, who always makes sure to do everything possible to help with attending Oddmall shows, allowing her to spend time with the ‘side family.’ 🙂
While Jennifer has the great support of her family here in Ohio, she also has the network of crystal distributors who have become extended family by association! In order to get various items or custom carvings for her business, Jennifer works with people from all over the world. When it comes to procuring crystals, she has contacts in countries as far as China and Pakistan. “They take me (on video) to businesses closing down and [local markets] to where I can make my prices as cheap as possible to get everybody into this hobby,” Jennifer adds when discussing the procurement process. “I spend hours on working with them but it’s honestly one of my favorite things because I’ve gotten to know so much about different cultures I never would have before.”
Once the raw stones and crystals have been obtained, then comes the hard part of determining what they should be transformed into. Between Jennifer and her children, they have no shortage of wild ideas! “My distributors laugh at the craziness I ask for. I have some ridiculous asks and I know this,” Jennifer laughs. Luckily no ask is too big, as they have been able to work together to create some amazingly detailed creations – from the recent additions to the food line up to a large grim reaper sitting on a toilet, the only limit is their own creativity. 🙂
One of the great things about Da Mixing Pot is that they have so much variety in their offerings – whether you’re new to the hobby or a long time collector, or even just interested in various Anime or horror, there’s bound to be an item to find and enjoy of the highest quality! Some of the most popular pieces tend to be the wild and unique items that are exclusive to Da Mixing Pot, but Jennifer also notes that the character carvings are just as popular, from pokemon to horror and more!
While Jennifer does bring Da Mixing Pot regularly to Oddmall shows, she is regularly selling her product online too! She can be found doing live sales on a regular schedule, with Palmstreet on Tuesdays, Whatnot on Wednesdays and Facebook on Fridays. Also be sure to reach out directly if you are looking for a custom item – one of Jennifer’s favorite parts of the business is going on missions to help bring pieces to people they have been unsuccessful finding elsewhere!
